Since 2004, I have been working at the Faculty of Chemistry of Jagiellonian University in the Coordination and Bioinorganic Physicochemistry Group. My adventure in science began with research related to the kinetics and reaction mechanisms of platinum and ruthenium complexes with compounds of biological origin (e.g., oligonucleotides, proteins, biological reductants, nitric oxide). Later, I extended the research in model systems with in vitro studies. My current research interests are from the border of chemistry, biology and medicine and are focused mainly on i) the application of ruthenium complexes in the treatment and diagnosis of cancer; ii) transferrin family proteins as drug carriers, as well as supplements or adjuvants, in the regulation of intestinal microbiota; iii) hypoxia in cancer – diagnosis and therapy. The research is carried out with the application of a variety of methods that comprise absorption and emission spectroscopic techniques, classical and with fast detection (e.g., stopped-flow, time-resolved spectrofluorimeter, laser photolysis), chromatographic techniques (HPLC, FPLC, gel electrophoresis) and in vitro laboratory (cell cultures, cell incubator working at hypoxia conditions, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, plate reader).
